THIS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TRADITIONAL RANCH HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED SINCE THE 1970’S AND PROJECTED A DARK, CLAUSTROPHOBIC, UNINVITING IMPRESSION. THE CLIENTS, A WELL-TRAVELED INDIAN-AMERICAN COUPLE, WANTED A MODERN, MID CENTURY SPACE TO HOUSE THE ARTIFACTS THEY COLLECTED FROM INDIA, AFRICA, AND CHINA AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILY HEIRLOOMS.
M.A.P. INTERIORS BEGAN BY REMOVING WALLS AND LOW, HEAVY CEILINGS TO CREATE A MORE OPEN FLOW WITH VAULTED CEILINGS AND SKYLIGHTS. WE CREATED AN INTERIOR DESIGN THAT IS A VIBRANT MIX OF OLD AND NEW, RUSTIC AND SLEEK, AMERICAN AND INTERNATIONAL, BY COMBINING MODERN CLASSIC AND BAUHAUS STYLE FURNITURE WITH THE OWNER’S ANTIQUES. BY POLISHING THE UNDERLYING CONCRETE FLOOR, AND ADDING NATURAL SLATE AND WOOD-STYLE CERAMIC TILES, SYLVIA BEEZ CREATED A COOL URBAN ATMOSPHERE THAT WAS DURABLE ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE FAMILY’S PETS.
FROM THE COMPLETE MAKEOVER OF THE FIREPLACES TO THE HANDMADE MOSAIC GLASS BACKSPLASH IN THE KITCHEN, TO THE SCULPTURAL COPPER VESSEL SINKS IN THE MASTER BATH, THIS HOME REFLECTS A TRULY ECLECTIC MIX OF STYLE AND CULTURE.
